Gridiron Dreams

Imagine football on a basketball court sized parking lot. There is only a thin layer of artificial turf between them and the concrete.  It’s a fast, high scoring, smash-mouth game.  These guys are professional football players but they’re not making millions of dollars. Most of them pull down a whopping $150 a game. No doctor on the sidelines, no x-ray machine in the locker room, if there even is a locker room.

Gridiron Dreams is about the people that come together to make a team. Ordinary people with extraordinary stories and with dreams to better themselves and improve the lives of people around them.  Gridiron Dreams, will track these stories and others during the 2013 UIFL season. Personal stories at home and work, workouts, locker room, road trips and wins and losses. For these players, coaches and dancers, it’s not about the money. It’s about the game and it’s about a dream.

Gridiron Dreams. Who will make it. Who will fail.

Mr. George

Currently in post-production, Mr. George is a feature-length documentary detailing the life of Mr. George W. Jenkins.

George W. Jenkins started a grocery business in 1930 during the height of the Great Depression.  Today, that business operates more than 1,000 Publix Super Markets stores in the southeast, becoming a Fortune 500 company that is consistently recognized as one of the most admired and best companies to work for.  How has Publix sustained steady growth for the past 80 years through the ebb and flow of different economies?  Why do so many of their associates stay with the company for their entire careers?  And, what causes a corporation to lead in charitable giving for so many efforts like March of Dimes, United Way and Special Olympics?

One needs to look no further than the man who started it all: Mr. George.  What Publix has done through the years is emulate its founder, both while he was at the helm and since his passing in 1996.  He created a culture rarely found in today’s corporate America…one which rewards success, promotes loyalty and makes people want to belong.

This documentary takes the viewer through Mr. George’s early years in Georgia, his education, family, beginning business relations, critical business decisions, work philosophy, business practices and philanthropy.  The story places these components in the historical context of the United States and Georgia/Florida during the years of Mr. George’s life.
